To protect garden plants from attack by snails, a rectangular sheet plate or plastics section has its main part (1) inserted vertically into the ground (7), with a narrow upper strip (2) bent into a sharp and acute angle. The free end (3) of the bent strip forms an opening (4) into a hollow (5) between them where climbing snails can enter on their movement path (6), and be trapped as they cannot move backwards out of the trap.
