The device for the prevention of ice dropping from tarpaulin covers of motor vehicles has at least one catching net (3) installed above the cover in the region of the top bow and tensioned at least in one direction. The catching net is in the form of a coarse mesh knitted fabric, meshing or stamped product, with the meshes having a clear width of 10-300 mm. The catching net has fastening elements (5) which with the tarpaulin anchors are detachably connected to the vehicle.
