FUSION SPLICING METHOD FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber fusion splicing method for preventing a mode field diameter in a fusion splicing part from greatly expanding locally by heating of the fusion splicing and that efficiently reduces connection loss through implementation of TEC by the heat treatment. SOLUTION: In this optical fiber splicing method, two types of optical fibers 1a, 1b having a different mode field diameter are abutted on each other at the end faces for fusion splicing, and then heat treatment is performed so that the mode field diameters are coincided with each other at the connecting faces. In this case, fusion splicing is carried out using a resistance heating unit 12 while the heat treatment is performed with a burner 13.
