PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turbocharger that improves characteristics of a compressor by smoothing a flow in a circulating passage. SOLUTION: An air inlet 21 is formed in a compressor housing 3 opposed to a peripheral portion of a compressor impeller 6, and an air outlet 22 is formed in the compressor housing 3 forward of a suction side of the compressor impeller 6, both of which are interconnected via the substantially cylindrical circulating passage 23 formed in the compressor housing 3. An air outlet 22 side of the circulating passage 23 is expanded to an outer circumference to increase a passage section area to form a passage expansion portion 23b for generating a tangential flow in passing air. The great increase in the passage section area of the passage expansion portion 23b presses a flow passing in the region against the outer circumference to produce force for generating a subsequent strong circulating flow, so that a swirl component is diverted into the circulating flow to improve surge side and choke side characteristics. |
