PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fall prevention device which hardly gives rise to a random coiling state even when a belt is used as a safety rope. SOLUTION: This fall prevention device has the safety rope 4 which has a hook 22 at its front end, a case 2 which has an outlet 3 for the safety rope 4, a drum 5 which is freely rotationally disposed in this case 2 and can take up the safety rope 4, a power spring 6 which is disposed in the case 2 and imparts rotating power to the drum 5 in a direction where the safety rope 4 is taken up, sensing means for sensing that the safety rope 4 is drawn out and that the drum 5 rotates at a prescribed angular velocity and prescribed angular acceleration and locking means for obstructing the rotation of the drum in linkage with the sensing of the sensing means. The safety rope 4 is a belt formed of a core yarn consisting of high-strength fibers, a bag-like skin structure consisting of synthetic fibers and binding yarn for flatly holding the bag-like skin structure. The yarn density of the bag-like skin structure is warp >=3,300 dtex (about 3,000 d)/mm and weft >=550 dtex (about 500 d)/mm.
