PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display(LCD) and a method thereof are provided, which improves a screen quality. CONSTITUTION: According to the method, source data is modulated at the first period of a frame using a pre-established modulation data and then is supplied to a display panel. And black data whose voltage level is established is supplied to the above display panel so that a screen is displayed black at least for a partial interval during the other interval of the above frame. And the source data is supplied to the display panel between the modulation data and the black data. And only upper bits of the source data are modulated.
