PURPOSE: A method for operating an electronic exchange system is provided to transmit a fault message occurring during a system operation to a web mail server connected over the Internet in an OMID(Operation Maintenance Interface Device) workstation, so as to enable a system operator to receive the fault message and manage the system immediately and efficiently. CONSTITUTION: A fault message is waited(ST101). Whether a fault for an error in hardware or software is generated in an electronic exchange is checked(ST102). If so, a generated fault message is transmitted to an OMID workstation(ST103). The OMID workstation receives the fault message(ST104), and a state is changed to a web mail server for screen display and web mail transmission in an OMID workstation operating system(ST105). Whether the web mail server is being operated is checked(ST106). If so, the fault message including a fault number, a block name, a fault generation cause message and a mail address is transmitted to the web mail server(ST107). Whether the message transmission is successful is checked(ST108). If so, a result is recorded in the OMID workstation(ST109).
