A fusion spinning assembly has a heated horizontal beam discharging molten thread down through an array of jets in the same plane. As seen in plan view, the jets are transposed to form a regular zigzag line. Each jet discharges a hot filament bundle through the cooling tube (9) forming part of a cooling assembly (8). The individual cooling tubes (9) are essentially coaxial with individual filament jets and located under (12) the beam (1). The diagonal space between adjacent jets is uniform. The lateral space between jets in the same line is constant.
