<p>Process for impregnating thick articles of cellulosic material, such as wood or wood pdts. having a moisture content of not more than 80%, with a 30-80% aqs. soln. of water soluble polyalcohols, their ethers, or esters with C1-8 fatty acids, comprises (a) subjecting the cellulosic material in a first pressure stage to a gas presure of 1.2-15 kg./cm2 for at least 2 mins., (b) surrounding the material with the soln. of the polyalcohol etc., while maintaining the pressure, (c) increasing the pressure during a second pressure stage to 1-20 kg./cm2, (d) maintaining the increased pressure for a sufficient period to ensure complete impregnation of the material, (e) reducing the pressure to atmospheric or lower pressure, (f) removing non-absorbed liquid, and (g) opt. drying the material.</p> |
