To improve the thermal conductivity of the main insulation of a conductor bar of an electrical machine, an insulating tape which comprises one or more layers of glass fabric (6) and mica (5) is proposed. Only essentially the meshes of the glass fabric (6) composed of glass fibres (7) are filled with a resin (8), which is provided with a filler which contains microscopic particles (9), having a thermal conductivity greater than that of the resin. For protecting the glass fibres (7) of the fabric, its fibres (7) are provided with a protective coating (10) of resin or lacquer, this protective coating (10) essentially surrounding only the fibres of the glass fabric (6), but otherwise the meshes of the fabric are not filled. A main insulation composed of such an insulating tape meets all the requirements regarding mechanical and thermal resistance and dielectric strength.
