PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gasifying furnace in which the running cost concerning a fluid medium is reduced, and a fluidized bed is formed satisfactorily and stably. SOLUTION: Furnace bottom ash containing carbon fraction is selected from a solid substance B containing the furnace bottom ash discharged from the inside of the furnace 2 with selection means 21, and the selected furnace bottom ash containing the carbon fraction is returned into the furnace 2 as a fluid medium forming a fluidized bed 3 with circulation supply means 22. The furnace bottom ash containing the carbon fraction as the fluid medium returned into the furnace 2 is produced by thermally decomposition of refuse A into gas, so that separate replenishment and exchange is not required. Further, the particle size and the density of the furnace bottom ash satisfy conditions required for the fluid medium forming the fluidized bed 3, and has a greater particle size and a density larger than the furnace bottom ash, so that scattering in the furnace 2 happening upon the furnace bottom ash being returned can be prevented.
