PURPOSE: A servo control device of a data reproducing system is provided to design a servo loop considering excessive response characteristics of an optical disc having a defect area, thereby carrying out normal reproducing operation without any data loss. CONSTITUTION: A servo control device of a data reproducing system includes a sample and holding unit(32) for sampling and holding tracking error signals detected in defect areas during data reproducing, and a compensating element(23) for controlling excessive response characteristics for the tracking error signals detected for a predetermined time period when re-advancing into a normal area from the detected defect areas.
