摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately provide a knock generating ignition timing for determining a knock generating limit without using a large number of maps in the ignition timing control device of an internal combustion engine having a variable valve system allowing to vary the operating characteristics of an intake valve. SOLUTION: An internal energy Q0 before the compression of mixture fed into the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine is calculated (Steps 10 to 106). In consideration of the power output of a piston delQ and a loss energy Qloss from a cylinder wall surface, an internal energy Q after the compression of the mixture is obtained (Steps 108 to 112). Based on the internal energy Q and an internal EGR rate r, a burning velocity v is obtained (Step 114). Based on the internal energy Q, burning velocity v, and a rotational speed NE, the knock generating ignition timing aknkcal is obtained (Step 118).
