PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry in and out cargoes on a storage shelf having a number of storage spaces in two fore-and-aft rows by a so-called single-reach type slide fork. SOLUTION: In this automated warehouse system, by moving up and down carriages 7 of a stacker crane 4 and expanding/contracting slide forks 8 on the carriages 7 in the fore-and-aft directions a, b, cargoes W are carried in and out between the slide forks 8 and storage spaces A and B which are in a front row and in a back row of the storage shaft 2, respectively. In addition to forming a recessed part 11 at each of caddies 10 containing the cargoes W, a projecting part 12 is formed at an end of each of the slide forks 8. The projecting part 12 is engaged in the recessed part 11 while the slide forks 8 is expanded/contacted. Thereby, the cargoes W are moved between the storage spaces A, B in two fore-and-aft rows.
