The lead-acid accumulator has positive and negative electrode plates, with plates of at least one polarity enclosed in separators and stuck to the floor of the cell housing (1). The cell housing floor has channels (3) in the stacking direction that total 20 to 50 per cent of the width of the cell housing. The plate block (2) is inserted into the housing without friction and is clamped by at least one clamping device in contact with a large block side.
