PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for winding a coil to attain automatic winding work of coil of armature including skew. SOLUTION: In the method of winding a coil of armature 3 including skew for winding a coil 18 to a magnetic pole tooth 27 by inserting a needle 51 between the magnetic pole teeth 27 including skew, and then controlling the needle 51 to perform the looping operation while the winding material 17 is guided from the end of the needle 51, the needle 51 is controlled to perform the looping operation under the condition that the armature 3 is held to alternately rotate freely around the axle center C of the armature against the needle 51.
