PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve more natural and finer continuous dimming up to the region of lower luminous flux by use of a discharge lamp lighting device that uses an inverter having the function of continuously dimming a plurality of lamps having different outputs. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device, which uses the inverter capable of continuously dimming the plurality of lamps FL1 and FL2 having different outputs, includes a plurality of inverter circuits INV1 and INV2 for dimming and lighting the lamps FL1 and FL2 individually, and a frequency control part FCNT for controlling the oscillating frequencies of the inverter circuits INV1 and INV2. During the process of continuous dimming, the outputs of the individual lamps FL1 and FL2 are controlled individually. In the region of high luminous flux in a dimmable range, greater visual effects of dimming are obtained mainly through a decrease in the output of the high-output lamp FL1; in the region of low luminous flux, fine visual effects of dimming are achieved mainly through a decrease in the output of the low-output lamp FL2. |
