PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein the number of considerably many identi fication information bits is required when the number of recording media to be identified is very large because the number of bits of the identification infor mation on ID specific to a recording medium is required according to the num ber of recording media to be identified. SOLUTION: A cassette number cord generator 16 issues a new and small cassette number cord by the number of digits very intelligible to a user when there is no same ID as a playback cassette ID in library information inputted via a library information management device 6 and recorded on a hard disk 2. A printer 18 prints out an inputted cassette number. The user sticks a paper sheet on which the cassette number is printed on a cassette tape 1 so as to manage the cassette tape 1. A library information management device 6 creates library information having link information to link the cassette number cord to a playback cassette ID, and record it on the hard disk 2.
