PRODUCTION METHOD FOR OPTICAL FIBER BASE MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for an optical fiber base material in which property fluctuation in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber obtained by a delineation of the optical fiber base material is constrained in the production method of the optical fiber base material made of a core portion and a cladding portion. SOLUTION: A refractive index distribution of a glass rod 1 which is a semi-product of the optical fiber base material having a part of the core portion and the cladding portion is measured. The total thickness of the cladding portion of a targeted optical fiber material 3 is calculated from this measured value. After a rough remainder of the cladding portion 2 is formed on the glass rod 1 based on the calculated value, it is solved by grinding a part of the rough remainder of the cladding portion 2 or giving an additional cladding portion on the part of the rough remainder of the cladding 2.
