METHOD FOR DESIGNING TRAFFIC SHAPERS IN COMMUNICATION NETWORKS

The invention relates to a method for designing traffic shapers that are established on the input and output nodes of communication networks in order to impress a property superior to a predetermined reference to the traffic flows. The operating agency is thus given the opportunity to solve the problem of dimensioning network resources by conservative comparison with the reference, and to achieve a high efficiency in the operation of the network. The inventive test method compares a probability distribution or probability density derived either directly or indirectly from the outgoing data flow by way of a test function that subdivides the event space into disjunctive areas that have to be evaluated differently with a reference in such a manner that the outgoing data flow has a probability distribution or probability density that is superior to the reference distribution in the sense of the application.
