PURPOSE: An antimicrobial agent containing dimethoxy tetrahydroxy flavone from a Scutellariae Radix extract as a main active component is provided which has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity, a suitable antioxidant function and aging inhibiting function as well as excellent antimicrobial activity. CONSTITUTION: The natural antimicrobial agent contains 0.001 to 1.0% by weight of dimethoxy tetrahydroxy flavone and 0.1 to 5.0% by weight of baicalein which are obtained by extracting Scutellariae Radix in a solvent and 10% by weight or more of one or more selected from an extract of Sophorae Radix, Lonicerae Flos, Coptidis Rhizoma, Forsythiae Fructus, Moutan Cortex Radicis, Galla Rhois, garlic or Glycyrrhizae Radix. The solvent is selected from propylene glycol, glycerine, 1,3-butylene glycol, water and alcohol. |
