PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for sterilizing a powdery substance, with and by which the powdery substance can well be sterilized without deteriorating the flavor, taste, and the like of the powdery substance, and to provide a device and a method for sterilizing the powdery substance, with and by which the powdery substance can continuously and repeatedly be sterilized in a short time. SOLUTION: A shock wave-propagating medium is injected into a cavity 9 in a chamber 2. The powdery substance 15 is charged in a tube 3 disposed in the cavity 9, and a large electric current is generated from a capacitor 13a to discharge electricity between bar-like electrodes 12a, 12b. Shock waves generated by the discharge are given to the powdery substance 15 in the tube 3 through the shock wave-propagating medium to sterilize the medium. By the method for sterilizing the powdery substance, only the particle surfaces of the powdery substance can be heated to instantaneously sterilize the powdery substance without evaporating the smelling ingredient of the powdery substance and without deteriorating the flavor, taste and the like of the powdery substance. |
