PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a four-cycle engine that enables a camshaft sprocket, a pulley, and other parts to be removed and reinstalled easily and efficiently, without letting oil to flow out. SOLUTION: This engine is related to a four-cycle engine for an outboard motor provided with a cam of a camshaft that turns is time, with a revolution of a crankshaft 12 being disposed in a perpendicular direction of an internal combustion engine and an intake valve 22 and an exhaust valve 90 that is driven by the cam at a predetermined timing to open or close an air intake passage and an exhaust passage, respectively. A work hole 200 for preventing the camshaft from turning is formed in a head cover 26 covering the camshaft. A removable lid 201 is fitted to this work hole 200.
