PURPOSE: A method of restricting use of functions is provided to give different passwords to functions of a DVD player to restrict setting or using of the functions. CONSTITUTION: A user selects desired functions(20) and sets different passwords for the selected functions(21). A desirable function is selected from the functions(23) and the password corresponding to the selected function is input(24), to perform the selected function when the input password is identical to the set password(25). A predetermined function is added to the set passwords or a predetermined function is deleted from the set passwords. In the operation of a DVD player, a user selects desired function groups and sets passwords for the selected function groups. The user inputs a password in order to execute a predetermined function. Then, the function group corresponding to the input password is displayed. The user selects a desired function among the function group to perform the selected function.
