PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character information display method that employs a pocket beeper that can be operated for a long time on the occurrence of a disaster or the like and to provide the system. SOLUTION: A pocket beeper 16 receives information sent from a host terminal and a display device 17 displays the information via a data converter 15. A power supply consists of an external power supply 11 and a storage battery 13. When the system is operated by the external power supply 11, the display device 17 displays all received information. On the occurrence of a power failure caused by a disaster or the like, the system is operated by the storage battery 13. When the system is operated by the storage battery 13, the display device 17 displays only an emergency message and stops usual information display in a sleep mode. Furthermore, in the usual operation, a control command sent from a host personal computer sets the sleep mode at night or depending on a state of non use or the like and the character information is displayed with little power consumption. |
