PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating composition wherein particles added thereto for imparting a film with some functions such as a prescribed refractive index and conductivity are excellent in dispersibility and dispersion stability and wherein time-dependent deterioration of the coating film due to the particles' photocatalytic activity is radically retarded while a low haze level and coating film strength enough to assure practical application are retained, a coating film formed by using the coating composition, and a transparent functional thin film using the coating film. SOLUTION: The coating composition contains (1) inorganic oxide particles whose primary particle diameter is 0.01-0.1 μm, (2) zinc oxide particles whose primary particle diameter is 0.005-0.01 μm and whose specific surface area as determined by the BET method is 10-70 m<2> /g, (3) a binder component, (4) a dispersant having anionic polar groups, and (5) an organic solvent. In a typical case, by using the coating composition, a medium to high refractive indices layers 18 and 19 as anti-reflection coating films 17 may be formed, and in another case, transparent conductive thin films, such as an antistatic film or a transparent conductive film may be formed. |
