METHOD AND NIPPERS FOR CUTTING AMORPHOUS OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE CABLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide nippers for cutting an amorphous optical waveguide cable, which can carry out smooth cutting accurately perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of a core with reproducibility so that surface characteristics of the cut surface are improved. SOLUTION: The nippers for cutting the amorphous optical waveguide cable having the core and at least one insulator are equipped with a nippers driving device 3. In a nippers head 2, a couple of clamping jaws 17 and 19 having a clamping profile 21 for storing the optical waveguide cable and a cutter 26 are provided. The couple of clamping jaws 17 and 19 are guided in the nippers head 2 in stroke movement in the same direction and arranged movably relatively to the cutter 26 through the nippers driving device 3. The cutter 26 is so arranged in the nippers head 2 as to stop during the stroke movement of the couple of clamping jaws 17 and 19. The stroke movement consists of a clamping fixation stroke 40, a cutting stroke 41, and a releasing stroke 42.
