PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substituted succinic anhydride-based sizing agent which has an improved sizing effect and can reduce paper-making system staining which is a problem on the employment of the sizing agent. SOLUTION: This adding sizing agent for making paper is characterized by containing a substituted succinic anhydride and a water-soluble compound as active ingredients. The sizing agent can reduce the staining of the paper-making system and can give paper and paper board having excellent sizing effects.
