PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inspect an article color, based on various items such as color tone fluctuation as total and partial color irregularities. SOLUTION: This color tone inspecting instrument has a color measuring means for measuring colors in multiple portions of a measuring object to output color-measured values in the respective portions, a computing means for computing a statistic of the color-measured values, and a determination means for determining the quality of the color measuring object based on the statistic. This method is applied in the instrument.
