PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine which excellently performs washing and killing harmful bacteria through utilizing electrolysis. SOLUTION: When energizing control is started in an electrode 33, an energizing time to the electrode 33 is read from an EEPROM 93 (step G1) at the point of time when last-time energizing control is ended. The counting of the energizing time is started after the read energizing time (step G2). When a time becomes an inversion time in a step G3, energizing control for the electrode 33 is stopped (step G4), and then, a changeover switch 98 is operated to invert the polarity of the electrode 33 (step G5). When the polarity inversion is ended, the energizing time is reset, counting is restarted and energizing control is started again (steps G6-G8). A scale is prevented from adhering onto the front surface of the electrode so that stable cleaning performance and harmful bacteria killing performance are secured.
