PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which consumption of power and toner is reduced by determining a transfer color without extracting compressed data unnecessarily thereby eliminating unnecessary transfer at the time of printing and more accurate counting is ensured without requiring any extra setting by a user by using determined transfer information for determining the charge count. SOLUTION: In the inventive printer, a decision is made whether writing data is present or not upon finishing writing of a divided band and the transfer color is specified for each page.
