PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element that does not require an addition of electron accepting molecules to the hole injecting layer and can drive at low voltage and at a high luminous efficiency, and can maintain stable light-emitting characteristics, and that is superior in heat resistance. SOLUTION: This is an organic electroluminescent element in which an luminous layer 5 is pinched by a positive electrode 2 and a negative electrode 7 on a substrate 1 and a hole injecting layer 3 is formed between the luminous layer 5 and the positive electrode 2. The hole injecting layer 3 contains a pyrrole derivative having a specific structure and a mean molecular weight of 100-1,000,000, a transition metal and/or a transition metal ion.
