PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the traveling controller of an autonomic traveling service car (traveling object for a work) for performing a clearing, waxing, and painting work all over while traveling in a prescribed work area. SOLUTION: This traveling controller is provided with a gyro sensor for measuring the direction of a traveling object, a distance meter for measuring a distance between the traveling object and an obstacle, a guide for playing the role of a reference wall for allowing the traveling object to measure the lateral position or traveling direction by using the distance meter, a traveling and direction calculating means for calculating either the lateral position or traveling direction of the traveling object or both by measuring a distance between the traveling object and the guide, and a condition discriminating means for discriminating a condition for allowing the traveling object to start the execution of the position and direction calculating means.
