TILT DETECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device which is capable of detecting a tilt without providing the device with a special detector, such as a tilt sensor. SOLUTION: The maximum tracking error signal amplitude for the tilt quantity detected by a tilt detecting means 20 is detected while the angle of the optical pickup 3 to an information layer is changed by a tilt varying means 26 of changing the tilt quantity between the information surface of an optical disk 1 and a light beam around a reference angle and the tilt of the optical disk 1 is detected by the value of the inclination at which the value of the tracking error signal amplitude is maximized from the relation between the measured tilt quantity and the amplitude value of the tracking error signal.
