PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control apparatus mounted on a vehicle provided with an engine provided with a turbocharger. SOLUTION: The invention relates to a vehicle control apparatus capable of setting an after-idling time. The apparatus is provided with the following two means. Specifically, an initial value setting means that measures a period of time, during which the vehicle remains stationary, and uses the measured time to calculate and set an initial value of the after-idling time; and a turbocharged engine type discriminating means that determines whether the vehicle control apparatus is for a gasoline-powered turbocharged engine or a diesel-powered turbocharged engine. The apparatus thereby sets the after-idling time using said initial value.
