PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the vapor lock of a fuel pump by partitioning a push rod cover into an air chamber and a fuel pump chamber with a piston member for fuel supply with the operation of a fuel pump. SOLUTION: This engine comprises the push rod cover provided between a crank case and a cylinder head and partitioned into the air chamber and the fuel pump chamber with the piston member for suppressing heat transfer to the fuel pump chamber, cooperating push rods provided between a cam follower and the piston member and between the piston member and an opening/ closing member, a fuel suction hole and a fuel discharge hole communicating with the fuel pump chamber, a suction hole valve for opening the suction hole when an interior of the fuel pump chamber is in a depressurized condition, a discharge hole valve for opening the discharge hole when an interior of the fuel pump chamber is in a pressurized condition, a fuel introduction pipe connecting the fuel suction hole to a fuel supply source, and a fuel supply pipe connecting the fuel discharge hole to a fuel injection device. |
