1,032,086. Steering vehicles. BOFORS A.B. Feb. 8, 1965 [Feb. 7, 1964], No. 5439/65. Heading B7H. A vehicle steering mechanism comprises a steering wheel 2 connected to a steering worm 21 through a shaft 8, gear 18, rotor 19, and gear 20 secured to the worm and a second steering wheel 3 connected to shaft 8 and hence the worm through shaft 9 and shaft 25, passing through the hollow centre of the worm 21. Normally, rotation of gear 18 moves rotor 19 about the axis of pin 23 to open and close valves controlling hydraulic steering devices. In case of hydraulic failure, two pins 31 provide a lost-motion connection between sleeve 30 pinned to end 27 of shaft 25 and the shaft 22 which is keyed to worm 21. |
