<p>A fluid-tight housing contains a piston defining a pair of variable volume fluid chambers. One is a fluid balancing chamber and the second is fluid expansion chamber. Three fluid flow paths are connected to expansion chamber of unit. The first is connected to a high pressure source and the second is connected to a low pressure reservoir, each having valved lines, and an indirect heat exchanger is used to exchange heat between the two streams. A third fluid flow path extends between balancing and expansion chambers and has heat storage unit. Incoming high pressure fluid is extended and cooled after precooling by low pressure fluid, and work developed is extracted while heat of compression is removed.</p> |
