[Also in Division F2] A power hand tool assembly for installing press nuts comprises a mandrel 2 having an outer threaded end, an anvil 1, a first power system comprising a reversible air motor adapted to controllably impart rotation to the mandrel in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions, a second power system independent of said first power system and including at least one axially movable pressure responsive piston for retracting the mandrel relative to the anvil, first and second conduits respectively for connecting the first and second power systems to a pneumatic pressure source for driving said first and second power systems; and pressure regulator means in the second conduit. A nut 8 is threaded on to the mandrel 2 which projects through the anvil 1 and is passed through the workpiece 4. The mandrel is retracted to set the nut, Fig. 8 (not shown) and the mandrel is then unscrewed. The tool comprises a header housing part A, a tandem piston cylinder chamber part B, an air motor C and a pistol grip D. The part A includes the anvil 1, the mandrel 2, and a driving shaft 16 which is connected to the mandrel by a dog clutch 30 and 31, and is driven through gearing by a vane type air motor C. The driving shaft and mandrel assembly is journalled in an extension 17 of a piston 18 which slides within the housing part A and which is moved rearwards by hydraulic fluid delivered to the chamber 14 through a passageway 52. The tandem piston chamber part B comprises two separate coaxial chambers 38a and 38b containing pistons 40a and 40b respectively which are acted on by pressure air controlled by a valve 55. When the pistons 40a and 406 move forwards the end 41 of the piston-rod 39 displaces hydraulic fluid from the chamber 42 into the passageway 52 to move the mandrel rearwardly. A selector valve 50 enables air to be supplied to either or both the chambers 38a and 386. The air motor C is controlled by a valve 73 and a reversing valve 71. |
