PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element wherein the intrusion of the impurities leaked from the substance in the outside air or a sealing agent into a liquid crystal substance can be suppressed without reducing the area of a display part and to provide the manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal composition 104 containing a gelatinizing agent is lying between the sealing agent 102 and the image display part 103 between a pair of substrates 101. In this structure, the diffusion of a small quantity of molecules in the outside air transmitted through the sealing agent 102 or the substance contained in the sealing agent itself into the liquid crystal substance of the image display part 103 is suppressed by the existence of the liquid crystal composition 104 and the liquid crystal display element can be stably driven for a long time.
