PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-strength polyester fiber having controlled molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and morphology. SOLUTION: This polyester fiber comprises a polyester composed of ethylene terephthalate as a main repeating unit, having >=25,000 number average molecular weight measured by a gel permeation chromatography(GPC) and expressed in terms of polystyrene molecular weight, and substantially free from a branched structure. The polyester fiber has <=10 deg.C half value width of the crystal-melting peak, and <=20 cN/dtex tensile strength, and composed of the polymer having <=0.8 wt.% content of a cyclic trimer measured by the GPC.
