PROCESS FOR PRODUCING L-PROLINE

A process for producing L-proline by fermentation which comprises culturing a strain of Micrococcus glutamicus which requires isoleucine, arginine, citrulline, orithine, methionine or vitamin B12 for its growth in an aqueous nutrient medium under aerobic conditions. The addition of at least 0.4 percent by weight of magnesium sulfate to the medium greatly improves the yield of L-proline.
