FIELD: petrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: starting material is brought into contact with linear optionally substituted polyaromatic compound under conditions favoring formation of adduct of linear polyaromatic compound with linear olefin having internal double bond; separation of above-named adduct from reaction mixture; dissociation of adduct to give linear polyaromatic compound and composition of linear olefins with internal double bond; and, if necessary, separation of said linear polyaromatic compound from said composition of linear olefins.
