In a tractor mid-mounted mower the cutter-bar 1 and inner shoe 2 are pivoted on a hinge-member 3 about a normally horizontal axis A-A<1> and the hinge-member is pivoted on a drag-bar 5 about an upwardly inclined axis X-X<1> perpendicular to the horizontal axis, a tilt-control system 11, 13 being connected between the hingemember and drag-bar whereby the angle of attack of the cutter-bar may be varied, this system incorporating a shearable pin 15, whereby, upon the cutter-bar's encountering undue resistance by an obstacle the pin can shear and the cutter-bar and hingemember can initially move about the inclined axis X-X<1> until the other axis A-A<1> is sufficiently inclined to the horizontal whereon further pivoting occurs about that axis. The drag-bar is bifurcated, its upper ends being pivoted to the tractor-chassis about a horizontal axis B-B<1>. The tiltcontrol system comprises a lever 11 pivoted at 12 on the drag-bar and connected by a pitman 13 to the pin 15 on which its pivots. Interengaging detent-means 17, 18 are provided on the lever and drag-bar whereby the tilt of the cutter-bar may be maintained at any preset value. The pin 15 is mounted in hardened sleeves (Fig. 2, not shown) in the hinge-member 3 and pitman 13 respectively.
