Mixtures of alkyl esters and benzyl esters of polycarboxylic acids

Ester mixture comprises 2-98 wt.% of one or more ester compound (I) and 2-98 wt.% of another ester compound (II). Ester mixture comprises 2-98 wt.% of one or more ester compound of formula (Z-(COOR 2>) m-n(COOR 1>) n) (I) and 2-98 wt.% of another ester compound of formula (Z-(COOR 2>) m) (II). R 1>1-20C-alkyl, preferably n-butyl, 2-ethylhexyl or isononyl; R 2>benzyl (optionally substituted with 1-4C-alkyl or halo); Z : m-valent optionally saturated, cyclic or polycyclic 2-10C-hydrocarbon; m : 2-4; and n : 1-m. An independent claim is included for the preparation of the ester mixture comprising: reacting at least an aromatic or aliphatic polycarboxylic acid or its derivatives, at least a benzylalcohol and at least an aliphatic alcohol at 50-300[deg] C and 2 mbar to 4 bar, optionally in the presence of a catalyst; and simultaneously removing the reaction water from the mixture by suitable method.
