Assembly for producing ozone and/or oxygen ions in the air by dielectrically-obstructed discharge or corona discharge comprises a piezo-electric transducer (5) producing the high voltage required for ionization or ozone-production. The piezo-electric transducer is excited by an applied electrical impulse voltage to resonant mechanical oscillation which is converted back into a high electrical voltage by a further tap on the transducer. Preferred Features: The piezo-electric assembly is integrated with the ionization/ozonization assembly to form a functional unit. The piezo-electric assembly and its electrical control circuit in mounted using hybrid technology on the ceramic substrate used for the flat ionization device.
