<p>The fibres are first leached to dissolve the acid-soluble oxides, and then washed with water-spray, immersed in an NH4OH bath (at temp 120 degrees F to 140 degrees F) of conc. between 2 to 20% NH4OH for about 5 to 10 mins, and finally dried by heating in a furnace at 1650 degrees F to 2200 degrees F. Advantage is that the fibres produced have consistent high strength, reduced moisture content, reduced water of hydration and increased pH, and are compatible with resins and suitable for manufacture of ablation resistant-materials.</p> |
