PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying dihydroxybenzene by which the purified dihydroxybenzene is obtained with good operability without using an additive for improving the separation of liquids at the time of extraction operation. SOLUTION: This method for purifying the dihydroxybenzene uses the following steps: the first step: the step for subjecting the crude dihydroxybenzene to distillation to obtain a fraction containing acetone from the lower boiling point side, and a fraction containing the dihydroxybenzene from the higher boiling point side; the second step: the step for subjecting the fraction containing the dihydroxybenzene and obtained in the first step to the distillation to obtain a fraction containing the dihydroxybenzene from the lower boiling point side, and a fraction containing heavy components from the higher boiling point side; and the third step: the step for adding water to the fraction containing the dihydroxybenzene and obtained in the second step, and subjecting the resultant mixture to extraction treatment by bringing the mixture into contact with an extraction solvent and separating the resultant product into an aqueous layer containing the dihydroxybenzene and an oil layer containing impurities. |
