PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for whitening animal skins, not giving excess damage and shrinkage to skin. SOLUTION: This method for whitening animal skin comprises (a) a step for bringing animal skin in water bath into contact with a reducing agent produced by reacting at least 30 g hydrogensulfite having the formula: MHSO3 based on 1 liter water bath with at least 0.1 g borohydride having the formula: ZBH4 based on 1 liter water bath (wherein Z is sodium or potassium; M is sodium, potassium or ammonium) and (b) a step for keeping the bath temperature from 30 deg.C to 100 deg.C until desired whitenss is obtained. |
