摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semitransmissive reflection type liquid crystal device in which double image due to parallax and blotted display are not generated and a high quality image display is obtained. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal layer is held between a pair of transparent first and second substrates. A plurality of reflective electrodes 802 is formed on the liquid crystal layer side surface of the second substrate with prescribed mutual gaps. Transparent electrodes 801 are formed on the liquid crystal layer side surface of the first substrate at the location opposing to the electrodes 802. An illuminating device is arranged on the opposite side to the liquid crystal layer of the second substrate. Rectangular shaped slits 803 are opened on the electrodes 802 to pass light beams from the illuminating device to the liquid crystal layer side. Let &xi; be an angle between the orientation direction of the liquid crystal molecules approximately located at the center between the electrodes 801 and 802 and the longitudinal direction of the slits 803.
